Tron-Inspired Beauty Shoot

Over at Disney Style they are celebrating today with a Tron-Inspired beauty shoot by make-up artist, Amy Stozzi.

Tron 30th Anniversary Screening

Here's some good news for any Users in the Hollywood area!  On October 27th, the Grauman's Chinese Theatre will host a 30th anniversary celebration for Tron!

The event begins at 7pm with a filmmaker panel.  Many of the original cast and crew are expected to attend.  Following the panel, the film will be screened.  After that, there is a party in a "Tron-themed cyber-world inside the new Chinese Theatre ballroom."  There will be musical performances by artists who were inspired by Wendy Carlos' score.  

The lobby of the theatre will also have a display of artifacts from the original film!

If anyone attends, please send me some photos so everyone can enjoy the experience vicariously. 
Tickets are on sale this weekend for $40 (up to $50 on Monday) or $100 for VIP access.

They've set up a nifty new website at Tron30th.com.  It has some new graphic art for the 30th celebration with accompanying music and sound clips from the film.  The link to buy tickets is on the site.

Tron Storyboards on eBay

The other day I posted about the eBay seller the museumofmomandpopculture.  In addition to the original Tron cels they have for sale, they also have some amazing original pencil storyboards from the film.

These are incredible 4x9 pieces.  They have pinholes in the corners from when they were displayed for production.  Tron had to be completely storyboarded because of the complexity of every shot.  I love the dynamic lines of the one with the tanks about to fall into the abyss.  The one with the Recognizers moving through the mountains is more simple but no less unique.

Tron Production Cels on eBay

One of eBay's great sellers of entertainment memorabilia is the museumofmomandpopculture.  They currently have some rare and interesting original production cells from Tron for sale.

These are wonderful historical pieces since it's unlikely that any other film will ever use this labour-intensive process.  These are high contrast cels that allow for the circuitry patterns to be seen clearly.  Other cels would be composited with hand animation and colouring to complete the frame.

This next one is interesting because it includes two pieces of the composite.

These next two are 12x20 kodalith photos.

The listed prices range from $250-$500 which I think is a little high but they do also have the make an offer option.

Identity Disc Prop

Screenused.com auctioned off an original identity disc prop this weekend on iCollector.com.  It sold for  over $1800 (including buyer's premium).

30 years ago today, an innovative film was released that would forever change the motion picture industry.  Tron's amazing use of computer animation, its unique electronic score and a story ahead of its time make it one of the most important films of the 1980s.

Profiles in History Hollywood Auction 44

Profiles in History is gearing up for their 44th Hollywood Auction which takes place on May 14 and 15, 2011.  There are several Tron lots in the auction (lots 1103 through 1116).

The highlight is lot 1105 which is an original gladiator costume complete with outer coat.

There's also an original identity disc, several pieces of concept art, storyboards and some crew items.

Most of the estimates for these pieces are far out of the range that I would consider for them but maybe the recent Tron fever will cause them to sell high.

Movie Prop King Collection

Jason--the Movie Prop King--White, has posted a new video on his YouTube channel in which he gives us a tour of his screen-used Tron costumes.

Jason has in his collection a costume worn by Jeff Bridges as Flynn which looks to be in great condition.  I love the close-ups of the details on the back of the suit which we really don't see in the film.  Also, you can see on the back the velcro that held on his Identity Disc.

Jason also has a costume worn by Cindy Morgan as Yori.  Her "helmet" hasn't held up too well but the suit itself looks great!

Jason also has a helmet and armour worn by a game warrior.  I've seen a few pieces of armour in private collections and this set is in the best condition I've seen.  There's very little peeling of the graphic tape and I can't see any of the paint chipping off either.

I think my favourite piece in Jason's collection is the costume worn by Barnard Hughes as Dumont. I really like that character and the design of his costumes.

If you've never checked out Jason's site before you really should.  He has an amazing collection that I love to drool over often.  Jason's also a really great guy.  I've chatted with him a few times since we're both members of the Star Trek Prop and Costume Forum.

Tron Armour on eBay

A Tron collector from the UK recently posted a fantastic piece of original costume armour from the original Tron film on eBay.

This is the same design that was worn by Ram (Dan Shor) and Crom (Peter Jurasik).  It doesn't have any costume tags so it's impossible to tell who wore it.

This piece was originally sold a few years ago by Disney Auctions and it is accompanied by the original COA.  I was the high bidder but the reserve wasn't met when the auction ended.  I hope it is re-listed because I would really love to have an original Tron piece in my collection!

NECA Warrior Figure

Here's another of the figures NECA released in 2002 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Tron.  Like the others, it's a re-release of the original Tomy figure with a different backboard.

I was a little surprised that the colouring of this figure is different from the Sark one.  The translucent plastic is a slightly darker red and the painted accent lines are sort of an orange colour where on Sark they were a white-pink.

As with the other figures in this line, there's almost no articulation but it's still a great representation of the Warriors from the film.

The Warrior figure comes with a nifty glow in the dark staff accessory.

NECA Sark Figure

In 2002, for the 20th anniversary of Tron, NECA released a series of action figures that are essentially re-issues of the the original 1980s Tomy figures with new backboards.

Though these figures have almost no articulation, and the sculpts bear almost no resemblance to the actors who played the characters, they have a certain charm.  I'm a big fan of David Warner who played Sark and this is a fun representation of the character.  It's retro and making these toys from translucent plastic was a clever and inexpensive way to reflect the amazing glowing effect from the original Tron film.

If you're a Tron fan your collection wouldn't be complete without least one of the figures from this series.  They're beginning to become more and more rare but they're still out there.
