I wanted to post some screenshots of Spinmaster's Tron: Legacy website for posterity.  I'm not sure how much longer the official site will be available!  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there will be any more action figures available from Tron: Legacy.  We'll have to hope they keep up the good work with Tron: Uprising.

Mercury Figure

As strange as it is for a Tron fan, I'm not a gamer.  I've never played Tron 2.0 but I really like the designs from the game.  Most fans don't consider it "canon" but I think it's still a neat alternate reality.  In 2003, NECA released a series of four 8 inch action figures based on Tron 2.0 characters.

Mercury is a female program voiced by Rebecca Romijn in the game.

Her costume design draws a lot of inspiration from sports pads which is appropriate since the costumes from the original Tron were made of pieces of motocross armour!

Mercury has 11 points of articulation.  She comes with a Tron 2.0 display base and a staff weapon accessory.  The staff is really cool!  It's a transparent rod with really detailed circuitry designs painted on it.

Any Tron enthusiast should definitely take a look at these figures.

NECA Warrior Figure

Here's another of the figures NECA released in 2002 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Tron.  Like the others, it's a re-release of the original Tomy figure with a different backboard.

I was a little surprised that the colouring of this figure is different from the Sark one.  The translucent plastic is a slightly darker red and the painted accent lines are sort of an orange colour where on Sark they were a white-pink.

As with the other figures in this line, there's almost no articulation but it's still a great representation of the Warriors from the film.

The Warrior figure comes with a nifty glow in the dark staff accessory.

NECA Sark Figure

In 2002, for the 20th anniversary of Tron, NECA released a series of action figures that are essentially re-issues of the the original 1980s Tomy figures with new backboards.

Though these figures have almost no articulation, and the sculpts bear almost no resemblance to the actors who played the characters, they have a certain charm.  I'm a big fan of David Warner who played Sark and this is a fun representation of the character.  It's retro and making these toys from translucent plastic was a clever and inexpensive way to reflect the amazing glowing effect from the original Tron film.

If you're a Tron fan your collection wouldn't be complete without least one of the figures from this series.  They're beginning to become more and more rare but they're still out there.

CLU Core Figure

One of the first wave of core figures by Spinmaster for Tron: Legacy is CLU.

CLU is a great character.  In the original Tron we see him briefly as Flynn's avatar when he's trying to hack into the MCP.  He seems to be back for Tron: Legacy and I look forward to seeing what role he has to play.

As with the other core figures, CLU features internal lighting that's activated by pressing a button on his back.  The sculpt of this figure is great.  All the details of the costume seem accurate and because he's helmeted, this figure doesn't have the problem of capturing the actor's likeness like the Sam Flynn core figure does.

The articulation is as good as the Sam Flynn figure; with great range of motion in the arms and legs.  That makes these figures really playable for kids but their design is equally good for collectors.

CLU comes with a cool katana that I can't wait to see in action in the film (tomorrow!) and an ID Disc.  He also comes with an appropriately orange ID Disc display stand.  

When I opened my CLU figure it was damaged and the head fell off!  I called Spinmaster's customer service department and spoke with a wonderful rep named Shaunna.  She collected the serial number from the figure and my information and quickly arranged to send me a replacement.  It really impressed me that Spinmaster has these processes in place.  It was great customer service which makes me more likely to keep coming back as a customer.

Sam Flynn Core Figure

One of the six wave one core figures produced by Spinmaster for Tron: Legacy is Sam Flynn.

As with the other figures in this series, Sam Flynn has internal lighting that can be activated by pressing a button on his back.  

The sculpt of the body is quite good.  They did a great job of capturing the details of his suit.  The hands aren't accurate as the figure features full gloves where the actual suit only has part of the hand covered.  Also the head is a bit weird.  It doesn't look anything like Garrett Hedlund. Something about the helmet is a bit off as well.  I think maybe if it had a blue-tinge instead of being totally transparent it might look better.

There's great articulation through the arms and legs.  The figure comes with a battle baton and an ID Disc as well as the ID Disc display stand.  The accessories are well-designed and I love the base!

All in all, for a figure of this size, the detail is the best you could ask for.  It looks pretty great!
